MEDIAPS conducts research in
many related areas of computer science - from the theoretical
foundations of quantum supercomputers to the theory of self-organisation
of complex technological and social systems.
One of the main research directions in which the institute
operates is the development of "virtual reality" technology
and its application to practical applications. In particular,
for space, medicine, environmental monitoring, education,
etc.
A significant part of research conducted by our researchers
is associated with the application of computer science in
the field of high technologies, particularly related to space
exploration, high-energy physics, nuclear industry.
Among them,
- the research associated with the development of interactive
visual monitoring technology of environmental disasters (forest
fires, floods, oil or condensate explosions, and other anthropogenic
effects on nature) on the basis of a synthesised reality,
including: "Virtual Earth", the data of space scanning, and
computer simulation;
- system of space objects simulation in the induced
virtual environment designed to control the behaviours of
complex technical systems in space, based on the use of modern
and advanced information technologies, primarily in the technology
of virtual reality;
- development of virtual environment technology for
recognition of spacecraft and for evaluation their parameters
by land-based observations (on radar and optical signals received
by ground-based observational means) to address security in
outer space, to prevent the collision of satellites with space
debris;
- project: development and design of panoramic systems
of, virtual environment for visualisation in science, education
and industry. The aim of this project is the design of a series
of virtual environment panoramic systems, providing the user
immersion in an artificial world of investigated, as well
as direct interaction with the data in the model space;
- development of a virtual model of a nuclear reactor
for research and monitoring of its behaviour in normal mode.
The aim of this project is to develop and create three-dimensional
virtual model of a nuclear reactor for research and monitoring of its
behaviour. New quality of this project is an original display system
to present the process of neutrons moving in three-dimensional space
nuclear reactor. Development of new methods of visualisation and animation
processes arising in the nuclear reactor can significantly improve the efficiency
of scientific research in the physics of nuclear reactors.
- development of virtual reality systems for low-cost medical
applications. Existing commercially available system of virtual
surgery, usually require expensive equipment and special software.
In this project virtual simulator was developed that runs
on personal computers with standard configuration. The developed
system allows us to study methods of orthopaedic surgery and
to plan operations, without wasting expensive plastic casts
of bones. The system simulates surgical techniques, implants
and instruments.
